("The Ark" was the name given to the house near present-day Public Square in Cleveland at which leading citizens of Cleveland met to discuss natural history and related subjects in the mid- to late-Nineteenth Century. The building no longer exists, of course, but the camaraderie and love of books of the "Arkites" are now embodied in the Rowfant Club.) No. 19 of an edition limited to 130 copies. 9 ¼ hes x 12 ¼. 46 pp. + printer's mark page. Illustrations: (1) reproduction of the Dec. 10th 1844 letter from J. J. Audubon to William Case, regarding the Quadrupeds, (and other printed materials regarding J. J. & Victor Audubon, prospectus for the Vivaparous Quadrupeds of North America, etc., pp. 15-25); (2) photogravure of the exterior of the "Ark"; (3) double-page plate reproducing an 1858-59 painting by Julius Gollman, of some of the members ("Arkites") of the "Ark." Black morocco leather spine and sides, with titling gilt on the front leather side of the cover, dark green cloth over boards. Contains material on Dr. Jared P.
