Item description from seller

C.G. Barkla and Miss Janette G. Dunlop, " Note on the Scattering of X-Rays and Atomic Structure" in Philosophical Magazine, London, Taylor and Francis, 6th series, vol 31, no. 183, March 1916, with the Barkla/Dunlop on pp 222-232 in the issue of pp 177-256. Extracted from a larger bound volume. GOOD condition. "Professor Charles Glover Barkla was a very distinguished physicist who received the Nobel prize in physics in 1917 for his pioneering discovery of the characteristic X-radiation of the elements.  This was one of the most important developments in the determination of the structure of atoms, later confirmed by X-ray spectroscopy.  Barkla relied on the assistance of the most able of his research students in his work, and Janette Dunlop (1891-1971) was one of these, demonstrated in her co-authorship of an article with Barkla published in 1916."--Minerva Scientifica website ("Janette Dunlop").
