Item description from seller

A very good copy in original embossed patterned full leather binding with gilt rim and banded gilt motifs on spine. Marbled endpapers and fore edges. No marks, clean and tight but spine creased and worn top and bottom and corners bumped and worn. Remains a beautiful book. No marks.Preface by Walter Scott and said to be limited to an edition of 250. Originally written in 1658 and first published in 1694, Franck's work is of major importance in containing the first account of salmon fishing in Scotland. The original edition of 1694 is of the utmost rarity. This edition, itself scarce, has a preface and notes anonymously contributed by Sir Walter Scott. Also notable is Franck's attack on his contemporary Izaak Walton, in which "The Compleat Angler" is dismissed as an "indigested octavo". Posterity has found for Walton, but, as Scott remarks, in so far as fly-fishing is concerned, Franck is "much superior".
