Add to basketThis book covers important areas of nonlinear dynamics, relating to both theoretical and applied problems. Much attention is paid to the dynamics of thin-walled distributed systems, including structures manufactured from composite materials. Theoretical aspects of the nonlinear dynamics of beams are also touched upon. The book examines issues of effective vibration damping using various types of electromagnetic and mechanical nonlinear devices. Modern analytical and numerical methods make it possible to describe the complex dynamic behavior of the considered nonlinear physical systems of various natures.
We expect that this book will be of significant interest to students, researchers, and engineers. This book can stimulate an active exchange of ideas between researchers working in various fields of nonlinear dynamics. We believe it can contribute to the effective solution of various problems relevant to both nonlinear theory and engineering applications.
Holm Altenbach is Full Professor of Engineering Mechanics at the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Institute of Materials, Technologies, and Mechanics. He has 45 years of experience in teaching and research in various fields of mechanics (material modelling, mechanical analysis of thin-walled structures, composite mechanics, general strength problems, generalized continuum models, etc.). Since 2022 he is retired.
Yuri V. Mikhlin is Professor in the Department of Applied Mathematics at National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute”,Ukraine. He has almost 55 years of experience in nonlinear dynamics and applied mathematics. His research interests include the theory of nonlinear normal vibration modes, stability of motion, nonlinear dynamics of elastic structures, vibration absorption problems, the chaotic behavior of nonlinear systems, and other problems of nonlinear dynamics. He serves on the editorial boards of international scientific journals and has organized several international conferences and mini-symposia.
Christophe Pierre is Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey. He is a scholar in vibrations, structural dynamics and nonlinear dynamics. He is known for pioneering research on mode localization in disordered periodic structures, nonlinear normal modes, reduced-order modeling and frictional contact. His vibratory response prediction codes have been licensed to jet engine manufacturers worldwide. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Academy of Mechanics and the National Academy of Inventors.
Konstantin Avramov is Head of the Department of Non-linear Mechanics and Mathematical Modeling at Anatolii Pidhornyi Institute of Power Machines and Systems (Kharkiv, Ukraine). He also holds a professorship in the Aircraft Strength Department at Kharkiv National Aerospace University and in the Technical Systems Department at Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics. He is Corresponding Member of National Academy of Science of Ukraine and awarded by Ukraine State Price in Engineering and Order of Merit from President of Ukraine. His research interests include nonlinear normal modes, nonlinear dynamics of thin-walled structures and machines, fluid/structure interactions, nanotechnology, additive technology, vibrations and strength of aerospace structures.
