Item description from seller

A very scarce second edition of Nomothetes: The Interpreter Containing the Genuine Signification of Such Obscure Words and Terms Used Either in the Common or Statute Lawes of this Realm first compiled by the learned Dr. Cowel. First compiled by Dr. Cowel, revised by Thomas Manley, Esq. Second edition, enlarged, corrected and revised. With a preface to front by Thomas Manley and decorative head and tail pieces and capitals. Included is an addition of many words omitted by all former writers, and pertinent to this matter with their etymologies, as often as they occur: as also tenures, whether jocular, or other statutes and records, wherein the alterations are expressed, and their agreements or dissonancy, with the law at present declared. With an appendix to rear, containing in alphabetical order the ancient names of places here in England, very necessary for the use of all young students, who intend to converse with old records, deeds and charters. With an extra spine label tipped-in to rear free endpaper. With ink inscriptions to last page of text. Handsomely rebound in a half calf binding with marbled paper covered boards. Externally, in a lovely condition but with minor wear to extremities. Front hinge strained. Internally, firmly bound. Bright but with the odd spot and handling marks and slight marginal tidemarks. Very Good Indeed.…
