Dan Cohn-Sherbok, Collective Ink. "You're studying to be a lawyer then.?" "No, not a lawyer either! "Not a doctor, not a lawyer, then maybe a businessman? You want to go into business. You'll be a great success I'm sure." "Actually Mrs Schwartz, not a businessman either. I'm studying to be a rabbi." "You want to be a rabbi? I don't understand. Your father is a successful doctor and you want to be a rabbi?" An account of a young rabbi's battle with the Establishment on four continents. The author portrays the excitement, petty jealousies and perplexities of congregational life, bringing a new slant on the question, "What's a nice Jewish boy like you doing in a place like this?".
