Reading in Content Areas: Every chapter in New Worlds contains two textbook readings and one popular source reading - twenty-four in all.
Why Am I Learning This? In addition to teaching skills, New Worlds explains the purpose and application of each technique to show students the practicality of their course work.
Five Exercises per Reading: Each reading is accompanied by an Annotation Exercise that apply skills as students learn them; a Comprehension Quiz that assess student understanding; a Vocabulary Quiz that asks students to define words from their context; Writing to Enhance Understanding activities that use short answer prompts to reinforce key skills; and Site Seeing links and suggestions to guide students onto the Internet for further reading and study.
Collaboration: Exercises throughout New Worlds are provided in a format that easily adapts to collaborative work. Opportunities for collaboration are also stressed in the Instructor's Manual that accompanies the text.
