The history of art and new media are inextricably linked – both historically and in the present day. This publication can be described as an interdisciplinary reflection: it examines the confrontation and interaction between art history and new media, highlighting key developments, opportunities, and tensions.

In eight studies, eleven researchers present new findings and explore the techniques and methods of new media – from electronic to digital and post-digital media – and the challenges these pose for art history. The book covers a wide range of topics, from the history and historiography of new media to their practical application, use, and reception, as well as creative processes, material conservation, and mediation.

R�gine Bonnefoit, Doktorat in Kunstgeschichte (Universit�t Heidelberg, 1995) und Habilitation (Universit�t Passau, 2006); Forschungsassistentin an der Abteilung f�r grafische K�nste des Louvre (1992–1994); Forschungsstipendium am Kunsthistorischen Institut in Florenz (1995–1998). Volontariat an den Berliner Museen (2000–2001). Hochschulassistenz am Institut f�r Kunstgeschichte der Universit�t Lausanne (2001–2006). Nach einer F�rderungsprofessur des Schweizerischen Nationalfonds erfolgte die Berufung zur ordentlichen Professorin f�r Kunstgeschichte und Museologie an der Universit�t Neuch�tel. Kuratorin und Co-Kuratorin zahlreicher Ausstellungen.

Melissa R�rat, Dr., ist derzeit Postdoc-Forscherin an der Universit�t f�r angewandte Kunst Wien (2023–2025) mit einem Postdoc.Mobility-Stipendium des Schweizerischen Nationalfonds (SNF). Davor war sie wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Schweizerischen Institut f�r Kunstwissenschaft (SIK-ISEA) und Lehrbeauftragte f�r Geschichte der Neuen Medien an der Universit�t Neuch�tel. Ihre Doktorarbeit in Kunstgeschichte und Soziologie (2020, publiziert 2022) untersucht die soziale Konstruktion der Videokunst durch die Diskurse der 1970er-Jahre. Ihre Forschungsgebiete umfassen die Geschichte der Videokunst, die Interaktion zwischen zeitgen�ssischer Kunst und Kunstgeschichte, die Rolle der Archive in der Wissenskonstruktion und Genderfragen in der zeitgen�ssischen Kunst.

Melissa R�rat, Dr, is currently a postdoc researcher. She has been awarded a Postdoc.Mobility fellowship from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) to continue her research at the University of Applied Arts Vienna from 2023 to 2025. Previously she was a scientific collaborator at the Swiss Institute for Art Research (SIK-ISEA) and taught the history of new media at the University of Neuch�tel. Her doctoral thesis in art history and sociology (2020, published in 2022) studied the social construction of video art through discourse in the 1970s. Her research fields include the history of video art, the interaction between contemporary art and art history, the role of archives in the construction of knowledge, and gender questions in contemporary art.

The withdrawal period will expire after 14 days from the day on which you acquire, or a third party other than the carrier and indicated by you acquires, physical possession of the last good or the last lot or piece.

To exercise the right of withdrawal, electronically fill in and submit a clear statement on our website, under "My Purchases" in "My Account". We will communicate to you an acknowledgement of receipt of such a withdrawal on a durable medium (e.g. by e-mail) without delay.

To meet the withdrawal deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right of withdrawal before the withdrawal period has expired.

Effects of withdrawal

If you withdraw from this contract, we will reimburse to you all payments received from you, including the costs of delivery (except for the supplementary costs arising if you chose a type of delivery other than the least expensive type of standard delivery offered by us).

We may make a deduction from the reimbursement for loss in value of any goods supplied, if the loss is the result of unnecessary handling by you.

We will make the reimbursement without undue delay, and not later than 14 days after the day on which we are informed about your decision to withdraw from this contract.

We will make the reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of such reimbursement.

We may withhold reimbursement until we have received the goods back, or you have supplied evidence of having sent back the goods, whichever is the earliest.
