Original engraved antique hand-coloured map. In ivory mount. Mount size 45cm x 33cm Engraved size 32cm x 22cm In very good condition. Alexander Hogg (active 1778-1805) was a publisher and printer at the 'Kings Arms 16 Paternoster Row' in London. He published many works under different names. 'The New British Traveller' was published in 1784 under the name of 'George Augustus Walpoole' It was a guide to Britain with maps engraved by Thomas Conder (active 1775-1801). The maps were mostly copies of maps by Thomas Kitchen and Thomas Bowen produced in the 1760s and 1770s. The book was republished in 1794 as 'The New and Complete English Traveller' by William Hugh Dalton. This map probably comes from this 1794 edition. Seller Inventory # 83278
