This beautiful gift anthology collects extraordinary responses to the Great War, showcasing the winning poems, art and songs by children aged 9-16 from across five continents, over the four competitions.
With thoughtful additional information about each entry, the work is presented in a beautiful hardback volume, an ideal gift for anyone interested in the momentous events of the War.
The anthology is a moving tribute to those events, and a celebration of young people’s creativity.
‘Never Such Innocence is a great initiative, ensuring young people across the country are continuing to learn about the Great War, write poems, create artwork and tell stories and imagine what it must have been like for the soldiers and their families. And imagine it we must, for this is the only way they can be remembered.’
- Michael Morpurgo
‘Never Such Innocence is doing important work so that young people remember the sacrifice that was made so that they could have a future, and to reflect on what this means for our world today.’
- Prime Minister the Rt Hon Theresa May MP
'Touching and charming'
- Joanna Lumley
‘The book is a physical pleasure in itself. The impact of the artworks, frequently in startling colour, is often stunning. The Anthology reflects how powerfully the project has already released the imaginations of so many young artists and writers around the world.’
- Books For Keeps
'surely a must- have for all school libraries... There is some stunning work in the book, and the very best artwork and poetry is particularly moving... a tremendous testimony to the acts of imaginative engagement that many thousands of children have performed’
