In an attention-starved world, every digital product competes for your gaze. How do we design for attention amid the flood of information and cognitive overload? In Human–AI Interaction (HAI), effective design centers on anticipating user attention, the key cognitive resource that shapes focus, intent, decisions, engagement, and trust. The book Neuro-Attentive Design reveals design principles and methods grounded in the cognitive science of attention for product design in the age of AI. The salient features of the book are as follows:
Neuro-Attentive Design for HAI:
The book introduces Neuro-Attentive Design (NAD), a framework that unifies Attention-Oriented Design (AOD), Design-Driven Attention (DDA), and Predictive Attention Design (PAD) to enable intelligent, cognitively aligned Human–AI Interactions. NAD integrates reactive, proactive, and predictive attentional design strategies in the new dyad of Human–AI Interaction, where both a user and AI driven product interact intelligently.
Cognitive Ergonomics of Attention:
Provides methods based on the attention cycle and engagement patterns to evaluate visual saliency and attention in generative UIs, and estimate cognitive load for designing Human-Centered AI (HCAI) products.
Applicability Across Digital Domains:
Highlights how Neuro-Attentive Design is essential in AI-driven products across domains ranging from mission-critical dashboards to automotive interfaces, from AI-powered metahumans to voice assistants, from drone-management dashboards to AI-enabled patient-monitoring systems, and from social media to e-commerce and digital marketing.
Bridges the Knowledge Gap:
Fuses the cognitive science of attention with design thinking to equip product designers with attention-centric design methods. Translates decades of attention research into actionable design principles.
Specially Suitable For:
The book will benefit Product Thinkers, Designers, Human-Centered AI (HCAI) Researchers, AI Product Leaders, Educators, Founders, and Students, with each chapter offering practical assignments for hands-on application.
