xiv, 16-288 p. Bibliography. Index. In this book outspoken, important book an award-winning Black writer explains the history behind Freedom Riders, Sit-Ins, Prayer marches. The development and meaning of racial protest sweeping America in the early 1960's. This is both important for its contribution to the discourse at the time and increasingly as a snapshot of a time that outside of the experience of most people living in the United States today. As each year passes, fewer and fewer people who experienced Jim Crow, segregation, white only lunch counters, poll taxes, and the denial of civil rights will be available to recount their experiences. Very good. No dust jacket as issued.
