Add to basketChez Pierre Le Petit | à Paris 1659 | 8.50 x 15 cm | 2 volumes reliés | Édition elzévirienne fort bien imprimée. | [ENGLISH DESCRIPTION FOLLOWS] Elzevier edition, very well printed. The second volume contains only a half-title. The frontispiece portrait is missing, as well as a half-title, according to the signature of the gatherings. 19th century binding (circa 1860) in full green morocco signed H. Duru at the top of the endpaper. Triple fillet frame on the boards. Wide gilt dentelle framing the pastedowns. All edges gilt. Light traces of rubbing. Some foxing in volume I. Very handsome copy, perfectly established. These historical memoirs essentially cover the end of the 16th century and the beginning of Henri IV's reign and various later events (notably disputes between the queen and young Louis XIII), they contain, besides the narration of events, various documents including numerous letters. Pierre Jeannin was initially a lawyer and student of the great jurist Cujas, he became president of the parliament of Burgundy in 1580, then became counselor to the Duke of Mayenne, this involvement in League affairs did not prevent him from becoming state counselor and member of the Finance council (1598), he negotiated the Treaty of Lyon with Savoy (1601) and became extraordinary ambassador of Henri IV to the revolted Netherlands in 1607. At the king's death, Marie de Medici appointed him superintendent general of finances. * (32) 944pp. et 713pp. (18).
