About this Item
17 1/2" tall by 10 1/2" wide. Indenture is printed and filled in on both sides. Has been folded and is weak at two center folds. Printed portions state "Territory of Nebraska" but word territory is marked out and the word state inserted. Two revenue stamps affixed. One block and lots in Nebraska City, Nebraska are herein sold for $800 excepting land already transferred to the Midland Pacific Railway Company. The Midland, Pacific Railroad was created to build to Lincoln, Nebraska and onwards but primarily to win large land grants from the state, Lancaster County and the city of Lincoln to be awarded to the first railroad to reach the new (1867) and first capital of Nebraska at Lincoln. The Burlington & Missouri River Railroad won by reaching Lincoln in July of 1870 with the Midland, Pacific arriving a year later; their right of way is now part of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe.
