Print on Demand. This thrilling historical account recollects some of the most influential naval engagements of World War I, beginning with the lesser-known and dynamic role of the Royal Navy's Auxiliary Patrol. The author places the reader amid epic sea battles such as the pursuit of the German raiders Emden and Konigsberg, the intense skirmishes of the British submarines in the Heligoland Bight, and the pivotal confrontations of Coronel and the Falkland Islands. While introducing the major players in this gripping narrative, the author also sheds light on the critical but unsung efforts of the Auxiliary Patrol, a force of trawlers, drifters, and other vessels that patrolled coastal waters and played a decisive role in securing the British Isles and supporting larger naval operations. The book further explores the significant tactics and technological advancements that transformed naval warfare during this period. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

A few words of introduction about the two brothers who produced this book may be of interest.
The elder, Lieut. Donald Maxwell, was well known before the War as a naval artist on the staff of The Graphic. During the War he served in the on a North Sea Patrol and later with the Sheerness Naval Forces in command of 139. In 1918 he was appointed Admiralty Official Artist, and went out to Mesopotamia and Palestine to do pictures for the Imperial War Museum, which resulted in the making of a good many of the sketches in this book, and also in two other books of which he is both author and artist - The Last Crusade and A Dweller in Mesopotamia. In pre-war days he was a keen yachtsman and traveller, as he has shown in his books The Log of the Grifiin, A Cruise across Europe, and Adventures with a sketch-book.
