Gilbert White (1720 - 1793) was a 'parson-naturalist', regarded by many as England's first ecologist and best-known for his 'Natural History and Antiquities of Selborne' (his Hampshire parish), 1st published 1789 and never out of print since. This edition is unusual in that the notes & commentary provide an early 20th C comparison of the flora & fauna of Selborne with the original 18th C text, supported by contemporary b&w photographs of birds, other wildlife and views in & around village of Selborne, taken by the editor Richard Kearton & his brother Cherry Kearton. 1st published 1902, this 4th revised impression with new Foreword published 1924. Hardback in good overall condition. Cover in green buckram, gilt illustration of bird impressed on front, gilt spine titles. Bumped at corners, spine & edges a little faded, otherwise good. Binding firm throughout except partly exposed inside backcover. Text (248pp) on coated paper with slight gloss, good with some tanning to page edges. Blank endpapers tanned. Name of previous owner in biro inside front cover. 84 b&w photographs throughout text. Please note additional international postage for heavy item (920 g): Europe £10.20; World Zone 1 £17.65; World Zone 2 £20.85; World Zone 3 £23.00.…
