Alphabetic chapters on semi-precious stones and related minerals used for seals and gems- i.e.agate, beryl, coral, jet, lapis lazuli, opal, topaz etc. etc. New eps, bookplate of zoologist Desmond Morris on fpd, tipped-in letter more or less contemporary with the book, critical of King's arrangement of the text and written by an unknown expert on the subject, perhaps Charles Thomas Newton (1816-1894), curator of Greek and Roman Antiquities in the British Museum, who is acknowledged in the preface. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾".
