Five Volumes, Tall Octavo, Published 1800 - 1804. with the 180 FINE HAND COLOURED PLATES COMPLETE, bound in systematic order with accompanying leaves of text, few neat contemporary pen 'title' notations, some spotting, offsetting. Attractively bound in later quarter brown raised band calf, 'shell' & gilt ruled, green leather title labels. Edward Donovan [1768-1837] was member of the Linnean Society and founder of the London Museum and Institute of Natural History. He was an Anglo-Irish naturalist and Author of a number of important natural history works which stand out for their perfection of execution. was the founder of the London Museum and Institute of Natural History, which housed his natural history collection, sold at auction in 1817. .
