3rd Edition 1866.From the library of Hugh Powell Powel Castle Madoc. Two Volumes Complete. Engraved frontispiece, folding engraved map with small closed tear at inner margin, 4 folding lithographed plans, original green cloth, title lettered in gilt on spines, gilt decoration to front boards. William Gifford Palgrave (1826-1888) was an ordained priest, he joined the order of the Jesuits and served as a member of the order in India, Rome and in Syria, where he acquired a command of Arabic. On his second journey to Syria he assumed the identity of a travelling Syrian physician. He travelled from Syria, through Najd, and on to Bahrain and Oman, he returned to Europe, where he wrote this narrative of his travels. This popular account of his Arabian travels was first published in 1865. Books are very++ and bright. Light edge. Contents good. Gutters cracked but but holding wells. Nice examples.
