Item description from seller

Troy: J.C. Kneeland, 1846. "New and Revised Edition. containing an interesting and faithful account of his early life, and enlistment into the British Army; his experience while in the service, and escape from his regiment; capture, imprisonment, trial, and condemnation to death; his subsequent sufferings, and final escape from captivity, and settlement in the United States." Whew! Lighton deserted while serving in the British Army in Canada. He was caught and condemned to death, but escaped over the border to New Hampshire. In America he established himself as a Methodist minister. There's a fair amount of adventure and scandal here, but Lighton's sermonizing slows it down. Illustrated with 10 steel engravings, some of which are rather dramatic. With extra engraved title page. Back free endpaper removed. Foxed throughout, but an acceptable copy. 11 x 19 cm. 192 pp. b/w engravings .
