Have you ever wondered why the man who buried Jesus risked everything to claim his body, and what he witnessed in the days that followed?
What happens when a wealthy, influential member of the Sanhedrin steps out of the shadows to claim the body of an executed revolutionary? In the Narrative of Joseph of Arimathea, readers are granted an extraordinary, expanded view of the events surrounding the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Attributed to the very man who provided the tomb, this ancient biblical apocrypha provides a deeply personal and dramatic retelling of history's most pivotal weekend.
Far more than a simple repetition of the canonical Gospels, this text delves into the untold details. It provides a striking, expanded account of the two thieves crucified alongside Jesus-specifically naming Demas and Gestas-and details their actions and the profound spiritual divide between them. Furthermore, it recounts Joseph's own persecution by the Jewish authorities, his imprisonment in a windowless cell, and his miraculous deliverance by the resurrected Christ.
This modern translation brings the ancient world to life, ensuring that the historical, theological, and narrative nuances of this fascinating document are accessible to today's readers. It challenges our understanding of the early days of the Christian faith and invites readers to explore the profound mysteries of the empty tomb from the perspective of an eyewitness.
What You Will Discover in This Modern Translation:
- An Eyewitness Perspective - Follow the harrowing and inspiring journey of Joseph of Arimathea as he risks his life, his position, and his reputation for his faith.
- The Tale of the Two Thieves - Read the expanded, dramatic account of the penitent and impenitent thieves upon their crosses, and their final words.
- The Empty Tomb and Beyond - Explore the apocryphal details of Joseph's miraculous rescue from a sealed prison cell by the risen Christ.
- A Window into Early Christian Tradition - Gain a deeper understanding of the legends and narratives that shaped the early church's understanding of the Passion.
Whether you are exploring this work for its historical curiosity, its apocryphal significance, or its unique narrative angle, the Narrative of Joseph of Arimathea offers a thought-provoking experience.
Step into the ancient world and uncover the hidden stories behind the greatest event in history. Begin your journey today.

Store description
We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first visit or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book.
