Review
thoughtful study ... Paver's study is full of good things. A particular virtue is her ability and readiness to engage very precisely with the detail of her chosen texts. Moreover, she is right to link the issues of narrative and stylistic technique and of generic mode to broader matters of theme and import. ... the virtues of Chloe Paver's study are many. The detailed textual argument is very impressive, and time and time again she reminds us of the range and variety of what can be achieved by narrative means. (Martin Swales, MLR, 96.I, 2001)
Ms Paver has articulated important and complex matters that would interest scholars of German, European, and international literature of the late twentieth century and beyond. (Brian L Harris.)
very useful study ... One of the major strengths ... is a careful tracing out of the linguistic markers. (Mary E. Stewart, Jnl of European Studies.)
This study has many insights ... to offer. (Mary E. Stewart, Jnl of European Studies.)
