Paperback. It never says what will happen. Only who.For twenty-seven years, a notice in a small coastal newspaper has printed the names of people about to be singled out by chance. A lottery winner. A crash victim. Someone who takes the wrong seat.No places. No explanations. No warning anyone can use. Just names-and not one has been wrong.Forensic statistician Wren Calloway built her career proving the notices were meaningless. She had a reason: the paper named her twin sister before the bridge fell. Now the man who wrote them is dead. The notices haven't stopped. And the newest one names Wren.Drawn into his murder investigation, Wren follows a trail of old letters, impossible records and people with everything to lose. At its centre is a promise powerful enough to turn grief into a movement: the people you lost could have lived. There is only one catch. Someone else would have had to die.As New Year's Eve approaches, Wren must find out who is still sending the names-and what a desperate father is prepared to do when the year runs out.Would you take a second chance if someone else had to pay for it? It never says what will happen. Only who.
For twenty-seven years, a notice in a small coastal newspaper has printed the names of people about to be singled out by chance. A lottery winner. A crash victim. Someone who takes the wrong seat.
No places. No explanations. No warning anyone can use. Just names—and not one has been wrong.
Forensic statistician Wren Calloway built her career proving the notices were meaningless. She had a reason: the paper named her twin sister before the bridge fell.
Now the man who wrote them is dead. The notices haven't stopped. And the newest one names Wren.
Drawn into his murder investigation, Wren follows a trail of old letters, impossible records and people with everything to lose. At its centre is a promise powerful enough to turn grief into a movement: the people you lost could have lived.
There is only one catch. Someone else would have had to die.
As New Year’s Eve approaches, Wren must find out who is still sending the names—and what a desperate father is prepared to do when the year runs out.
Would you take a second chance if someone else had to pay for it?
