Paperback. A restless young newspaperman sent to write five hundred words about the ragged, contrary old man living under a trestle bridge instead spends two years being quietly, patiently dismantled by him, and is handed, before the old man dies, six plain rules for living that took an entire hard lifetime to earn.Jeffery Beach is a novelist whose work moves between literary fiction and spiritual allegory, often transposing old wisdom traditions into distinctly American settings and characters. His previous novels include The Elysian Fields, a Vonnegut-style ensemble set in a senior apartment complex, and The Long Truce, a science fiction novel drawing on the Peloponnesian Wars. His memoir, Opening Your Wisdom Heart, chronicles his own long path toward the kind of plain-spoken, hard-won clarity Elias Vann embodies in The Six Nails. He continues to write, edit, and self-publish from wherever the current work happens to need him most. This item is printed on demand.
