Your unit just switched EHR vendors, an AI note tool is in pilot, and the alerts will not stop. Who in the room understands how the system actually works?
Most nurses learn health technology on the job, one workaround at a time. Clicking through screens does not teach you why an alert fires, where a lab value travels, or who is accountable when a record is wrong. Exams, committees and clinical practice now expect that understanding.
Nursing Informatics 2027 gives you that foundation in 25 chapters, written by a clinician for working nurses and nursing students. Every chapter moves from the concept to the bedside decision it changes.
- Core theory, system architecture, the electronic health record and nursing documentation
- Interoperability, HL7 FHIR, SNOMED CT, LOINC and standardized nursing terminologies
- Clinical decision support, alert fatigue, barcode medication administration and smart pumps
- Data quality, analytics, dashboards, evidence-based practice and knowledge management
- Artificial intelligence, generative AI, telehealth, remote monitoring and patient portals
- HIPAA, cybersecurity, ethics, public health informatics, leadership and the future of digital health
Every chapter includes Clinical Pearls, case vignettes with step-by-step reasoning, key point boxes and comparison tables, plus 50 original labeled clinical illustrations across the 25 chapters.
Online bonuses. Scan the QR code on the last page and enter the activation code printed in the book to unlock:
- 300 board-style practice questions in 25 chapter banks, with feedback after every answer
- 375 flashcards in 25 chapter sets
- A video course of 53 hand-picked lessons mapped to the chapters
This 2027 edition reflects current ONC, HHS and ANA expectations for informatics practice.
