Item description from seller

24mo, 5.5 in. x 3.8 in., pp. 113. Illustrated with tissue-guarded frontis portrait of the author. Flexible bright red leather boards with decorative gilt frame, wreath, and title to front. Gilt title and floral desogn to spine. Light shelfwear to edges. Unmarked, bright interior. Ouida (the pen name of Maria Louise Ramé, 1839 - 1908) was a celebrated and controversial British novelist who wrote over 40 novels, children's stories, and essays. Many of her books were considered "racy" for the era. She was a dedicated advocate for animal rights and a lavish social entertainer. Her pseudonym, "Ouida," originated from a childhood mispronunciation of her given name, Louisa.
