Presumed original vellum over original binding, missing a large piece front cover, binding and covers detached from bound leaves. Internals quite nice. The Mart� printing and bookshop business began in 1700, when Joan Pau Mart�, her husband, acquired the printing press from Sebasti� de Cormellas , whose family, in turn, had bought the Humbert Gotart printing press in 1591. The Joan Pau's widow, Maria, runs the workshop between 1723-1737. The theme of the published books is fundamentally religious. The most splendid period of the Impremta Mart� corresponds to the one run by the widow of her son Maur, Maria �ngela (1754-1770), helped by the master printer, Antoni Rovira. Despite continuing to publish religious books, of which she published 130 titles, Maria �ngela printed the exemplary Novels of Mar�a de Zayas (1764) and cookbooks such as Francisco Mart�nez Monti�o, Arte de cocina, pasteleria, vizcocheria y conservaria(1763). The printing house was renamed Oliver Mart� when Ign�sia, daughter of Maria �ngela i Maur, married the Barcelona bookseller Francesc Oliver; and changes its name again when a granddaughter of Maria �ngela, daughter of the Oliver Mart� marriage, marries the Zaragoza bookseller Valerio Sierra. With the name Sierra i Mart�, the printing press and bookshop remained active until the first third of the 19th century . The Reserve Library of the University of Barcelona preserves more than 150 works published by Maria �ngela Mart� as well as several examples of her printer marks, which she identified throughout her professional career.
