Item description from seller

Scrap of paper, size 2«" x 3", with writing in ink 'Dont let him have them Mr McMahon', presumably an instruction passed by the defendant Arthur Orton to his barrister Mr. McMahon during his trial in the King's Bench for perjury and forgery. together with an extract from Cassell's 'Illustrated History of England' describing the case and the trial, with illustrations, 8pp., large 8vo, and two other small clippings on the case. The heir to the Baronetcy of Tichborne was lost at sea in 1854. His mother was convinced he was not drowned and when Orton, originally a London butcher, claimed to be the lost heir, she believed him. The trial lasted 188 days. Orton was defended by Mr Kenealy, Q.C., and Mr McMahon, Q.C. --- Please e-mail for one of my FREE CATALOGUES which include GENERAL [ Manuscripts, Maps, Ephemera, Views, etc., etc. ] ---.
