FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 4.25 x 6.75 inches. [2] + 365 + [1] + xv pp. index + [1] + [2] pp. publisher's notice. Bound in original cloth ; spine professionally rebacked, in Morocco gilt. Endpaper with inscription 'Received from Edward Knocker Gent of Dover on a visit to that town on the 3rd of July 1833' A very good copy. Illustrated by steel engraved frontispiece, drawn by T. S. Cooper, engraved plates, 4 wood engraved plans and 2 steel engraved maps. The first edition of the combined new history and guide which was a smart and very upmarket production. This copy is complete with the wood and steel engravings, including the fine frontispiece view of Dover, drawn by the young Thomas Sidney Cooper (1803-1902) of Canterbury.
