Twelve monthly journals for 1855 bound in one. Small Quarto, 10 in. x 6.5 in., pp. 576, [1], iv-x (complete index). Illustrated with engravings. Brown cloth boads with elaborate frame and floral design stamped in blind to front and back. Gilt title and haystack design, with bandlines stamped in blind, to spine. Rubbing to extremities with mottled, soiled boards. Tears to gutters; missing spine caps; corners showing and nudged. Previous owner's name in pencil to front free pastedown and front free endpaper. Front hinge is just showing. Light age-toning to pages. Good reading copy: an ugly exterior, but a tight spine and supple leaves. Laid in: Stitched pamphlet authored by J.C. Bartlett: "Address, Delivered Before the Worcester South Agricultural Society, at Sturbridge, Sept. 29th, 1858. Also, the Names of the Officers of the Society for 1859, and a List of Members." Published by Order of the Executive Committee in Worcester: Printed by Charles Hamilton. 9.3 in. x 5.5 in., pp. 16. Blue paper wraps with previous owner's name in pencil to top of front wrap. Light soiling to wrap. Upper corner tideline throughout. Editor Simon Brown (1802 - F1873) was an American politician who served as the 21st lieutenant governor of Massachusetts from 1855 to 1856. He was then an at-large delegate to the 1856 Republican Convention in Philadelphia where he supported the nomination of John C. Fremont.
