Published in 1867, this Victorian Isle of Man atlas is a very important record of land ownership and parish boundaries on the island, compiled by local surveyor James Woods, the large elephant folio volume contains seventeen hand-coloured maps, most are double page. Each of the maps identifies individual landholdings and includes reference tables to each map listing all the land proprietor's showing the extent of their land. The hand colouring uses specific tints to distinguish different land types, for example pink often denotes Lord's Quarterlands, while yellow indicates intacks. Bound in the original cloth binding measuring 21.5 inches tall approx. there are handwritten notations referring to the individual maps by the original owner to rear endpaper (see pictures) The cloth is noticeably marked and discoloured, some wrinkling to the cloth on the reverse. Internally some staining to rear endpaper, there is a clean horizontal tear with no loss to one of the text pages (pictured) else the contents are in good general condition. This is a larger volume, overseas destinations may require extra shipping costs. …
