The purpose of this book is to give you a chance to re-examine this business advice with just enough of a twist to take it from trite to truth. It’s about challenging the business truths that sabotage success. It’s about shifting the way that you think about the myths that you’ve been told in business so that you may discover new possibilities and become the Most Vital Person, MVP, in your business. The four common myths that you may have been told: Myth #1: Be More Decisive Myth #2: Be More Proactive Myth #3: Be More Positive Myth #4: Be More Present When you practice shifting your thinking about the myths as they relate to hiring, you will be on the lookout for future MVPs of the company, not just a body to fill a role. When you utilize the suggestions about shifting your thinking about the myths surrounding leading or managing a team, you will quickly assess the soft skills that will make or break the success of your team. When you shift your thinking about the myths with customers and clients, you will be more attractive to do business with, and your experience of doing business with these clients and customers will improve. Why should companies care about growing people and creating teams full of MVPs? Because the smartest business leaders know that by growing people you grow profits. With an organization full of MVPs, it’s easier to attract and recruit more MVPs. MVPs are more engaged in their jobs and are more likely to stay with a company longer, which impacts a company’s attrition rate and the bottom line. With an organization full of MVPs, it’s easier to attract and keep more and better clients and customers. With an organization full of MVPs, it’s easier to increase market share, innovate, and make a difference. MVPs are not satisfied with the status quo. The status quo is suffocating. Comfort zones kill creativity. MVPs know that more is possible, and though many of them may go into hibernation when the economy goes south, they don’t stay there for long. This book is for anyone who is not willing to wait for the latest statistics about the economy, the unemployment rate, or consumer spending to tell them that all is well, or can be soon. This book is for all of the entrepreneurs, business leaders, salespeople, innovators, professionals, and other working people who have ideas and goals that they know will improve their lives and the lives of others, and they are not going to wait for conditions to be perfect in the world to launch their dreams. This book is for people who know that the promise is there but have not yet been able to put the puzzle together to move toward worthier possibilities.
