From the Publisher
Jittery investors have been watching the volatile stock markets, listening to today's investing gurus and agonizing over whether to hop into the hottest funds. Rather than follow today's rising star which could become tomorrow's Dow loser, personal finance counselor and bestselling author Eric Tyson reminds investors to look at the long-term picture in MUTUAL FUNDS FOR DUMMIES, 2nd Edition. Having counseled investors for many years, Tyson has seen many costly mistakes that investors made with their savings. He points out ways to avoid these common mistakes, such as: avoid funds with high operating fees, load funds, and novelty funds; pay off your high-interest debts, especially credit cards; keep funding tax-sheltered retirement accounts, like a 401(k) or an IRA.; try to time the market and shift money around frequently; invest in funds that fit your tax status. MUTUAL FUNDS FOR DUMMIES, 2nd Edition is written in a clear, friendly style that makes funds accessible to all investors. It explains how to compare funds to similar peers, how to evaluate tax issues and even how to fill out the application form in the mountain of literature that the mutual fund company sends to prospective investors.
