Neuware - 'Music at Midnight' is a vivid and enchanting memoir that captures the essence of a bygone era in London's cultural history. Written by the celebrated hostess Muriel Draper, this work transports readers to her legendary home at 19 Edith Grove, which served as a sanctuary and stage for the greatest musical talents of the early twentieth century.Through Draper's witty and observant prose, the reader is invited into a world where music was the ultimate language of connection. The book provides an intimate look at the informal gatherings where world-renowned artists such as Pablo Casals, Arthur Rubinstein, and Karol Szymanowski performed in the quiet hours of the night. Beyond the performances, Draper illustrates the deep friendships, intellectual vibrancy, and bohemian spirit that defined her circle during the Edwardian age and the years preceding the Great War.More than just a social chronicle, 'Music at Midnight' is a profound tribute to the power of art and the dedication of the performers who shaped the modern musical landscape. It remains an essential read for those interested in the history of classical music, the art of the salon, and the social dynamics of pre-war London society. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
