Byron mentions him in English and Scotch Reviews. His translations from the Iceland in 1804 are considered the first accurate renderings of a Scandinavian language. A handsome set bound in full polished calf of purple and black marble, trimmed with the Greek key design in blind framed within gilt rules and lovely corner flourishes, raised bands, double maroon spine labels gilt, 3 compartments decorated in gilt, all edges marbled with matching marbled endpapers, a few scratches or nicks, volume 1 has three small areas of gilt loss to corner flourishes on rear board, some light foxing or toning, previous owner's name Henry F.
