The system works as intended—until it no longer waits for permission.
In a near-future city governed by surveillance, classification, and systemic coercion, control is exercised quietly and continuously. Movement is monitored. Access is conditional. Decisions are made procedurally and enforced without explanation. Order persists not because it is trusted, but because it is embedded in daily life.
Most people adapt. The system functions smoothly enough to feel inevitable.
At a moment when his own position has begun to loosen, Gaussian Blur finds himself drawn into a small, unofficial network operating in the margins. Their interventions are deliberately restrained—pressure applied carefully, just enough to test how tightly control is held.
A catastrophic disruption forces the system to reset.
It stutters.
It adapts.
What follows is not collapse, but uncertainty. Alignment falters. Assumptions no longer hold. The city keeps functioning, but its logic becomes harder to read.
Murmur is a near-future political novel about resistance, control, and a system that begins to evolve beyond the authority of its creators.
