Other aspects such as genetic improvement and breeding, gene mining, cloning, editing and genome assembly are also discussed. It explains latest developments, existing problems, and future perspectives of mung bean research. The included chapters provide a systematic description of the methods, advantages, the latest achievements in germplasm, breeding, and molecular biology of mung bean.
This book aids researchers in understanding the major aspects of genetic and genomics research for mung bean. It is a valuable reference for agriculturalists, conservationists, scientists and students interested in this field of research.
Dr. P. Sivakumar is presently working as an associate professor at Agricultural College and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, India. He completed his bachelors from faculty of agriculture, Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu, India, and masters in plant breeding and genetics. He obtained his PhD in biotechnology from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, India. He did his post-doctoral research from Department of Genetics and Molecular Biology, University of Malaya, Malaysia. He has more than 15 years of research experience and 13+ years of teaching experience for both undergraduate and postgraduate students in agriculture. He has published 60+ research papers and review articles in reputed national and international journals. He edited twelve books for the benefits of undergraduate and postgraduate students of agriculture and horticultural sciences. He has received several awards for their contribution in grain legumes research and two international patents for his scientific invention.
Dr. Jing Tian is a Fellow of Institute of Cereal and Oil Crops, Hebei Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, China, and is currently serving as Head, Division of Food Legumes Research at the institute. She completed her bachelors and masters degrees from Hebei Agricultural Technology Normal University and Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. She has developed 13 varieties of mung bean with high yield, good quality, resistance to leaf-spot and suitable for machine-harvest. She has studied mung bean transcriptome, genome, and gene mapping for important traits, completed the highest quality mung bean reference genome, and published more than 60 academic papers.
Dr. M. Pandiyan is a well-known legume breeder in India and served as former Dean for TNAU. He is currently the head for three research stations and one program coordinator. He has published 138+ research papers, 12+ books and 20+ book chapters. As a researcher, he has developed seventeen varieties in different crops including three in greengram, four in blackgram, one in redgram, four in groundnut, two in sesame, one in spiny brinjal, one in non-spiny brinjal, one in acid lime and five technologies for farming communities. He has conserved 20 genotypes in NBPGR, New Delhi and registered three genotypes for special plant type each one in blackgram, greengram and non-spiny brinjal.
Dr. Changyou Liu is a Fellow of Institute of Cereal and Oil Crops, Hebei Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, China. He is currently serving at the Division of Food Legumes Research at the institute. He completed his masters and doctoral degrees from Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. He has developed three varieties of mung bean, mainly studied the transcriptome, genome, and gene mapping for bruchid resistance and drought tolerance, completed the highest quality mung bean reference genome with the team, and has published more than 30 academic papers.
Dr. Lixia Wang is a Fellow of Institute of Crop sciences, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, China, and is currently serving at the Division of Food Legumes Research at the institute. She completed her masters and doctoral degrees from Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. She developed eight varieties of mung bean, has studied the genetic diversity of germplasm, gene mapping and mining for important traits. She has completed the highest quality of rice bean reference genome, and published more than 50 academic papers.
