Synopsis:
This study begins with the spatio-temporal demographic pattern of the city of Barddhaman. The historical evolution of the town has also been discussed in great detail to help in understanding the past and present land use, street pattern, and the resident’s perceptions of their respective environment. The main focus of this study however, was on the morphology of the old part of the town.More specifically, not the entire town but only the Rajbati and contiguous areas have been taken up for a detail study. These areas are defined as the ‘Old Urban Core’ of Barddhaman.
About the Author: Dr Papia Palit - Assistant Professor in Department of Geography, Barjora College is now actively involved in Urban geography research. She has published articles related the subject and carried out projects sponsored by reputed organizations.
