This is a child's introduction to chess. Divided into 16 chapters, each teaching a specific skill, it is written in such a way as to enable a beginner to learn chess at home with his or her parents, or to provide a guide for teaching groups of children in a club or at school. It is aimed particularly at seven or eight-year-olds, although older beginners should find it useful. There are activities sections in all chapters and quizzes to test understanding of skills as they are learned. From Chapter 6 onwards there are games to play through and finally, as chess is first and foremost a game which should be played for enjoyment, there is a section in each chapter called "Fact File", which includes items of general interest, chess history and trivia. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.
