[viii], 149, [1]. Three pedagogic works bound together, covering classical history, religious history, and what we might call today the polity and religious mores of the ancient Greeks. Contemporary full calf, raised bands, defects in leather on rear board recoloured to match, edges sometime speckled now faded, no endpaper to front, revealing original ties. Early signature Robt Bates 1722 to front inside board, occasional ?earlier ma rginal annotation commenting on the text of first item in the earlier parts of the text where the roles and nomenclature of the Jewish priesthood is discussed, signature of Robert Bates repeated on page 80, readin g Robert Bates of Worksop Nottinghamshire, Ejus Liber 1722, repeated on page 264 and on title page and title page verso of item two, frequent neat light underling, the Robert Bates repeated on Oo1v, this time with the date 1723, then repeated in secretarial Latin to rear flyleaf, upside down on verso of rear fly leaf is written Robert Pickeringe Book 1659, rear pastedown present but paste perished, leaving the rear inside board exposed, showing binding scrap, with miscellaneous jottings to verso. A good example of this popular series of textbooks, in contemporary or near contemporary condition, with interesting indications of the way that it was used.
