Paperback. A collection of Japanese short form poetry by Daniel Shank Cruz. "In their follow-up to a good possible year for an apocalypse, Daniel Shank Cruz renders a post-pandemic United States in snapshots that capture what it feels like to be persistently interrogated by the environs one navigates, where political violence has become an ordinary backdrop to the morning commute. As ominous as the picture Cruz paints can feel, Morning Subway doesn't surrender to our present-day despair, but conveys haiku's potential to foster a politics of love under a zeitgeist increasingly characterized by surveillance, militarism, and runaway capitalism. In offering us overcooked pasta during firefly season or admiring the beauty of bodies "glistening" in "record heat," these poems encourage readers to notice what is hopeful in the midst of a mounting darkness."James Knippen, author, Would We Still Beco-author, between falling leaves and their shadows and It Breaks Your Heart A collection of Japanese short form poetry by Daniel Shank Cruz.
