Unlock the power of randomness for solving hard scientific problems .
Learn how Monte Carlo methods turn guesswork into reliable numbers and guide the design of parallel computing systems. This book explains why random sampling is a practical tool for high-dimensional problems, from statistical physics to radiation transport. It discusses algorithms, hardware considerations, and how to balance accuracy, speed, and architecture. Readers will see how theory meets real-world computing challenges, with examples and insights that bridge science and computer design.
- How Monte Carlo sampling converges to correct averages and how many samples you typically need.
- Strategies for parallelizing Monte Carlo, including vectorization and multi-threading, without sacrificing flexibility.
- Architectural ideas for large, fast machines, and how to match algorithms to hardware.
- Illustrative discussions of two key problem domains: Ising models in statistical mechanics and transport simulations through matter.
