Not dated but c 1835 12mo, (16) leaves including covers, printed on one side only (covers excepted) and backed onto linen. 16 hand coloured wood engraved illustrations with verse below. Bound in original printed orange wrappers, with a new cloth spine, The cover is rubbed and worn with creases and small pieces missing on back cover, there is a some thumbing; light creases throughout; slightly discolored with some minor foxing and a little water stained, margins trimmed with loss of page numbers on some A good acceptable copy. The Monkeys Frolic is about a Monkey who teases a cat eventually falling from the roof with the cat in tow, giving a sick man in bed a terrible fright, who suddenly and miraculously is cured of gout.Originally published by John Harris, circa 1820, Grant & Griffith succeeded John Harris circa 1835, and possibly used the original John Harris wood blocks and typefaces for this editions. Grant & Griffith later changed to Griffith and Farran in 1856. The Monkey s Frolic was the 37th title issued in Harris's Cabinet of Amusement and Instruction, the first having been The Comic Adventures of Old Mother Hubbard and her Dog, of which Harris boasted that in a few months of its first publication in 1805 he had sold 10,000 copies.
