Synopsis:

This book is about the sacrifice of South African youth during the Apartheid era. The trials and tribulations that families went through. Sacrifices and risks that were taken albeit the cruel government system that was in place.

About the Author: Dr. Agnes Mawela was born at Alexandra Township in Johannesburg. The family moved to Diefkloof in Soweto when she was 6 years old. After completing her primary school education she was sent to boarding school in Venda where she obtained her matriculation and proceeded to the University of the North (currently University of Limpopo). She completed her Junior Degree in 1978 and started working as a public servant in 1979. She started working as a Language Practitioner translating government documents from English and Afrikaans to Tshivenda and vice versa. She grew in the ranks of language services until she became Head of Limpopo Language Services in 1995. In the meantime she improved her studies where she obtained an Honors Degree from the University of South Africa (UNISA) in 1986, then in 1993 she obtained a Masters Degree at the same university. With the dawn of democracy in South Africa Dr. Mawela moved to Polokwane, at the Capital City of Limpopo Province of where she headed the language services consisting of six official languages of the Province. She developed interest in Literature and started a vibrant program of promoting literature across all the five districts of Limpopo. A successful project in the form of a competition that cultivated in Awards was introduced. It had an overwhelming response from the public. A number of books were written and published locally in different official languages of Limpopo. However due to financial constraints there were good manuscripts that could not be published. Through her interest in fiction and non-fiction literature Dr. Mawela happened to meet with knowledgeable people who assisted her to publish internationally.
