Modern Polo by Captain E. D. Miller is a comprehensive classic that explores every aspect of polo-from the fundamentals of becoming a skilled player to the advanced science of horse selection, training, breeding, and international competition.Designed for both aspiring players and experienced horsemen, this authoritative guide begins with the essential techniques of polo, including riding skills, ball striking, forward and backhand strokes, and the practical foundations required to develop confidence on the field. As the journey continues, readers are introduced to the tactical side of the game, learning positional responsibilities, team coordination, match strategy, umpiring, and the principles that separate an ordinary player from an exceptional one.The book extends far beyond the sport itself by offering invaluable knowledge on polo equipment, selecting the ideal polo pony, systematic training methods, stable management, feeding, conditioning, and the care required to maintain elite equine performance. Detailed chapters examining famous polo pony breeds from around the world-including Arabian, Argentine, English, American, Indian, South African, and Australian bloodlines-provide readers with an extraordinary understanding of equestrian excellence.Further enriching its value, Modern Polo explores the history of polo in India, military polo traditions, breeding programs, international development, and the worldwide growth of the game. Extensive appendices preserve official rules, championship records, club directories, tournament chronologies, and registered polo ponies, making this volume not only a practical guide but also an important historical reference.Whether you are a polo enthusiast, horse owner, sports historian, equestrian student, coach, or collector of classic sporting literature, this beautifully preserved edition offers enduring knowledge, practical wisdom, and a fascinating glimpse into the heritage of one of the world's greatest horseback sports.…
