You spent years mastering the art of medicine. But nobody taught you the business of healthcare.
You’ve survived medical school, residency, and boards. You are an expert clinician, yet you may feel completely unprepared for the "real world" of modern medicine. From confusing employment contracts and complex RVU compensation models to the looming threat of burnout and restrictive non-compete clauses, the forces shaping your career often feel out of your control. The gap between your clinical expertise and your professional mastery isn't your fault—it’s a structural failure of medical education.
The Modern Physician’s Survival Guide is the missing curriculum. Written by Jonathan D. Block, MD, MBA, MLS, MPH, CPE, this comprehensive roadmap provides the specific, actionable knowledge you need to move from being a passive employee to an empowered operator. Whether you are a resident reviewing your first offer or a mid-career attending feeling stuck in a corporate system, this book gives you the leverage to practice medicine on your own terms.
Master the 15 Pillars of a Sustainable Medical Career:
- Contract Negotiation: Learn to identify common traps, negotiate tail coverage, and push back on aggressive non-compete radius restrictions.
- Compensation Mastery: Demystify wRVU thresholds, productivity bonuses, and how to ensure you are actually being paid what you’re worth.
- Risk Management: Protect your license with insights into defensive documentation, HIPAA compliance, and navigating the Stark Law.
- Operational Efficiency: Reclaim your time by mastering EHR optimization, billing codes, and the emerging role of ambient AI.
- Wealth Building: Go beyond generic financial advice with tax-advantaged strategies and debt management tailored for high earners.
The system is designed to serve its own interests first. When you don't understand the rules of the business, you are at a disadvantage. This guide closes that gap, offering pragmatic strategies to help you build a career that offers both financial security and professional fulfillment. It’s time to stop grinding through a system you don’t understand and start building a career that truly works for you.
