From one of the best-known scholars in the field of tests and measurement, comes an authoritative, up-to-date, and comprehensive treatment of the oft-misunderstood and contentious field of making mental measurements, written for the advanced student and measurement professional. The author covers the good and the bad of each area within the field, carefully explaining the psychometrics, from classical and modern scale development, to validity evaluation, to traditional and current conceptions of reliability, to modern standard setting techniques, equating scales, and advances in test delivery and administration, as well as accomodating special circumstances.
Throughout the text, there are many examples and relevant stories to hold the readers interest; and, it is organized in a way that makes it easy to locate specific topics. It is replete with up-to-date references, making it a wonderful resource for more detailed and scholarly study into many aspects of tests and measurement.

From the Back Cover
Modern Measurement: Theory, Principles, and Applications of Mental Appraisal presents a wide array of information on diverse but fundamental aspects of test theory and its application to practical problems in mental measurement for the advanced student and measurement professional. In general, these ideas can be classified under measurement science. The chapters build from foundations of mental assessment, beginning with a description of cognitive appraisal, moving through classical measurement theory, reliability, scaling, test and item construction, generalizability, theory, item response theory (IRT), and on to item analysis, test equating and linking, and special issues of test administration, such as computer-assisted testing and computer-adaptive testing.
Written for students and teachers alike, this book is a must have for anyone who will be involved in measuring students successes. Readers will find the book written in a very accessible language that helps them understand the content. Modern Measurement by Steven J. Osterlind is a must have for students that need to understand measurement.

Terms of sale
We are pleased to receive orders via the Abebooks shopping basket. VISITS: PRIOR NOTICE is needed if you would like to PICK UP a book from our shop. Our listed books are not on the public access shelves, though duplicates might be. You could use Ask Bookseller a Question, beneath the book description, and type something like: Can I pick up this book at the weekend. This minimizes the keyboard work you need to do. Or communicate with us in any other way. Much of our stock will probably never be listed, as our shop is about the size of two tennis courts, so a visit can be rewarding. There are many good cheap cafes in Newtown, an emerging tourist area, close to the Sydney CBD, and many customers make a night of it.
