The drawings were complete. The submittals were approved. The equipment arrived on time. And the building still does not work.
A duct sealed to the wrong pressure class. A trap vented in a way that empties it. Four trades in one ceiling cavity until one of them becomes uninstallable. Each looks acceptable the day it goes in, and declares itself months later, after the ceiling is closed and the cost of correction has multiplied.
Design literature explains sizing. Code documents and installation manuals are authoritative within narrow lanes. Between them sits the work that decides whether a building functions: turning drawings into installed, tested, operating systems. That territory belongs to the site engineer, and it has been documented far less thoroughly than it deserves.
What You Will Be Able to Do

• Read a drawing set for what it requires, not what it appears to show
• Judge whether a submitted product genuinely satisfies the specification
• Resolve trade conflict using clearance envelopes and tolerance accumulation
• Diagnose a starved terminal, a cavitating pump or a broken trap seal from field evidence
• Verify sprinkler spacing, working space, voltage drop, grounding and energisation readiness
• Read a balancing report critically and recognise what must be true before a system is complete

Built for the Jobsite
Learning objectives open every chapter and worked examples show every step and unit. Practice problems carry a consolidated answer key, and the appendices hold inspection checklists by system, unit conversions, a glossary and a full symbol list. Where a requirement is governed by an adopted code, you are directed to the edition in force on your project.

Who It Is Written For
Site and field engineers, superintendents, building services coordinators, quality control and commissioning personnel, inspectors, and engineering graduates entering their first field assignment.
Open it before your next above-ceiling walk, and start reading installed work the way an engineer who knows what to look for reads it.
