The Modern Carpenter and Builder. New and Original Methods for Every Cut in Carpentry, Joinery, and Hand-Railing, by Robert Riddell, Howard Challen, Philadelphia, 1867, 39 pp with fourteen full-page plates, cloth, 14 x 10.5, large quarto, 4to. In fair condition. Light fading and scuffing to boards. A bit of soiling to surface of cloth with light staining. A few bumps along edges of font board. Gilt finishing remains intact. Rear board afflicted with similar condition. New spine label. End bands are scuffed and rounded. Bookplate of Maurice Robert Des Marais on front pastedown. Small ink stain to front gutter at center. Scattered foxing and finger soiling to end papers. Light foxing throughout text with a few instances of finger soiling as well. Free of markings. Light dampness staining to top edge. faint and does not affect text. Binding tight and intact. Overall a sturdy, readable book. Please see photos. Very scarce. Riddell taught high school in Philadelphia, and though presumably an American, his books about building technology were reprinted in England unusual at the time.
