About the Author: Misty may-treanor was born in Los Angeles and grew up playing beach volleyball at the Santa Monica Pier with her father, Butch, a 1968 U.S. Olympian who also is considered one of the best coed doubles players in history, and her mother, Barbara, a nationally ranked tennis and top amateur volleyball player. Misty graduated with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology from Long Beach State, where she was a vital member of the 1998 NCAA Championship team and received the Honda-Broderick Cup as the nation's most outstanding collegiate female athlete. After a brief stint with the U.S. national indoor volleyball team, she transitioned to the sand, subsequently revolutionizing the sport of beach volleyball and becoming the best women's player ever. Misty lives in Florida with her husband, Major League Baseball catcher Matt Treanor, and their dogs Gruden and Boogi.
